Massachusetts Automobile Insurance Plan 


Effective April 1, 2008 *The Massachusetts Commissioner of Insurance has established the Massachusetts Automoble Insurance Plan (MAIP) for new and renewal personal auto insurance business meeting specific criteria. Only proposed insureds meeting these criteria can be written in MAIP.

  1. All operators on a policy are newly licensed; or
  2. All operators on a policy are new to Massachusetts or have not been insured, in Massachusetts in the last 12 months, or
  3. At least 1 operator on the policy has more than 9 SDIP points

In addition to the above, an insurance company must have rejected your application for a voluntary Massachusetts auto insurance.

Coverage cannot become effective until an application is completed, the required premium deposit is paid, and policy assignment has been established. The assignment of insurance company is random. You are not allowed to choose an insurance company under the MAIP

The down payment required before coverage can be bound is 25% of the total annual premium plus any premium owed to another company or agent.
